Who We Are / Vision a New Heart /

David Kullok (1870-1935) was the father of 11 children. Economically, the family was in a stable situation, however his children were unable to get a well-rounded education. In 1913 the family left Iekaterinoslav in the Ukraine, and immigrated to Argentina. His son Samuel (1906-1980), interrupted his studies in the Faculty of Medicine in Buenos Aires, to start an ambitious project, to which both his son Saul, and grandson Jose, after more than 70 years, are still committed.

I. 1934-1944

After more than 10 years of theoretical research, in the year 1943 Samuel Kullok proposed new and basic concepts where gravitational and inertial forces play a fundamental role similar to the role played by the electromagnetic forces in the formation and development of life. His essay was mentioned and commented on in the Buletin of the Institute of Experimental Medicine, volume XX1, No. 64, pg. 393, April 1944. Samuel, father of three, was then 38 years old.

II. 1944-1959

In 1945, the oldest son of Samuel, Saul Kullok, then 14 years of age, began to be directly involved in his father’s work. Father and son team would work together until the year 1974, when Saul immigrated to Israel.

For several years Prof. Dr. A.H. Roffo, Director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine in Buenos Aires, Argentina, followed and encouraged the Kullok’s to continue their work. Samuel, who was then earning his living from a small industrial business, decided to sell most of his assets and to begin conducting research in a privately financed laboratory that the new team set-up inside the Kullok home in Buenos Aires. The 1959 essay, “Possibility of Delaying the Decadence of Pluricellular Organisms” received encouraging responses from scientific institutions.

III. 1959-1974

In the year 1960, basic concepts of the newborn science of Cybernetics were integrated in the Kullok’s approach, following in the footsteps of Rosh Ashby an English medical doctor and cybernetist.

During this period, through publications (Papers) and lectures presented at medical congresses, hospitals and scientific forums in several countries, the Kullok’s approach began to gain recognition in the medical community. The implementation’s stage began in 1971, when patents in the USA and Europe were granted to a mechanical device the Kulloks invented, aimed at improving blood circulation based on a new theory of heart contraction, which they developed (Patents).

IV. 1974-1983

Saul, and his family, immigrated to Israel. On January 15, 1975, Saul delivered an in depth lecture about his heart contraction theory at the Faculty of Medicine in Haifa entitled “New contribution to the study of the mechanical behavior of the intact heart”. Prof. Palty, head of the Physiological Dept. of the Technion School of Medicine, organized this lecture.

In 1978, Jose, the oldest son of Saul Kullok, then 15 years of age, began to be directly involved in the family work. The end of this period was marked by the establishment and start-up operations of a commercial company, SKS Bio Equipment Ltd., owned by the Kulloks.

V. 1983-1989

This period is characterized by:

a)     The development of a diagnostic technique based on data obtained from the wave form of the carotid pulse wave; (Papers)

b)     The beginning of computerization of the “Rhythmical Lung” known by the  commercial name of “Bio-Tuning”;

c)     The technology was applied to hundreds of participants. They mainly complained of circulatory and/or neurological problems (Bio-Tuning 1 and 2). This technique was also used on children with Down syndrome (Down Syndrome 1, 2 and 3).

VI. 1989-1999

This period began with the publication of several papers in various international medical journals, but is dominated by the introduction of a new audio-visual technology based on the Kulloks’ understanding of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) function in the human body (Medical Hypothesis). Many years of hard work provided the basis for a new type of cardiac-feedback technology named “Non Cognitive Biofeedback”, which replaced “Bio-Tuning” technology thus facilitating the introduction of the Kulloks’ new concepts in the market place.

A joint research program about Heart Rate Variability (HRV) conducted with the Cardiology Department at the Hadassah Hospital during 1992-93 culminated in the joint pending for publication of a scientific paper about the discovery of a “Short Epoch Lengths for the Clinical Evaluation of HRV” (HRV). The developed HRV diagnostic device raises interest among the scientific community in Israel, for its potential applications in pharmacology. Along 1993-96, the system was commercialized in a major alternative health clinic in the state of Nevada, and other medical practices in the USA. The system was also successfully commercialized in several clinics in Israel treating thousands of people, mostly children.

Lectures about the new ANS Non-Cognitive cardio-Biofeedback technology (Non-Cog 1 and 2) were given at several medical forums in Israel, USA, Argentina and India. Collaboration with top world medical researchers in the ANS was established. This included an invitation to present the new audio-visual system at a Round Table at the Sixth World Congress of Cardiac Rehabilitation.

Controlled medical studies with ADHD children began with the participation of medical experts from Hadassah and Sara Herzog Hospitals in Jerusalem, Israel. This study was published in a medical journal in the year 2004 (Eisenberg 2004).

VII. Period 1999 - 2005

In the year 1999, the Kullok family teamed up with the Fox family, also a father-son duo (Fox), to create Epoch Innovations Inc., a science and technology company which aim is to implement and further develop the Kulloks’ IP, in the new emerging field of “Neuroperformance”. Early in the year 2001, the Kulloks’ relocated to London where they successfully translated already existing proprietary ADHD and Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) cardiac-feedback technology to meet the neurobiological and behavioral demands underpinning dyslexic population. During their stay in London the Kulloks’ submitted several patents in the physiological (Synergy Patent Please click right mouse button and select "Save target as...") and learning disability space (BrightStar Patent -Please click right mouse button and select "Save target as...") and the pinnacle of their efforts gave birth to a non-invasive dyslexia technology remediation named “BrightStar” (BS) (Israel21c, BBC, CNN, and CBBC). After a successful proof of concept (POC) study was carried out by the University of Nottingham in the UK (Jackson Nottingham), a green light was given for the first Dyslexia center to open in London, in January 2003. Likewise, BS technology clinical data was officially presented to the scientific community during the 2004 British Dyslexia Association (BDA) symposium (BDA Conference). In the year 2003, another subsidiary of Epoch Innovations was established in order to promote research and development in the USA ahead of commercial operations. Accordingly, Jose relocated with his family to San Francisco, to head the effort of expanding operations in the USA. In April 2004, the first Dyslexia center opened it doors in the heart of Silicon Valley in the City of Palo Alto California, and later on, a second center opened its doors in the city of San Diego, California. A number of BrightStar centers were also opened in Holland, Europe.

VIII. Sept. 2006 and Onwards

Saul started a new project, based on new kind of non-invasive technology, designed to particularly improve long term regulation of blood pressure, thus, providing an effective technological solution to essential hypertension and other cardiovascular related conditions. This novel technology is particular in that it prevents and treats blood pressure via non-pharmacological means. In order to successfully incubate this innovative technology and launch it to the healthcare market, father and son founded New Heart Solutions Ltd., an Israeli Start-up company. New Heart Solutions Ltd is ready to start clinical trials with the newly developed devices and methods towards the end of the year 2007.
